Video editing
has gone through a lot of changes since the days of the upright Moviola. One remark often heard on the set when something didn’t turn out right was, “Fix it in post.” For those of you not conversant with film and video editing jargon “post” is short for post-production aka editing. In the old days it was usually a joke but with the technology now available in digital video editing it often can be done.
As a video editor I have fixed a lot of seemingly unusable shots using the tools available in Final Cut Pro, the video editing software I use. There are two examples from my editing of Elizabeth Hepburn’s Better & Better Series one of which is shown in this Vlog.
We shot the third segment of the series, In the Lap of Luxury, at upstate New York’s spectacular Lake George. It was only the skill of my aerial cameraman Peter Longauer that enabled me to salvage any of the aerial shots.
The video will show three original camera shots followed by their edited versions.
I should mention that the lovely music you heard in the edited sections of In the Lap of Luxury is the work of our gifted composer, Rick Baitz.
