I have been thinking about publishing a newsletter for over a year and a half. However, “life its own self” – to borrow a phrase from one of my favorite authors, Dan Jenkins – has a way of intruding on one’s plans.
Almost two years ago (December 2015) an inoperable malignant tumor was found in Elizabeth’s abdomen. I won’t bore you with the details of our medical odyssey but three doctors including the chief oncologist at no less an institution than Sloan-Kettering were essentially waving goodbye to my wife. Needless to say this was not acceptable.
Elizabeth is a woman of profound Spiritual knowledge and her conviction that the healing resources available in that realm are based on deep experience. Every event – positive or negative – in our lives is there for a purpose and the inner learning that is gained from a life threatening trial is an important element in wisdom and personal growth. She is also a believer in using all the tools available to heal.
The next several months were devoted to finding a doctor with a solution and find one we did in the person of Richard Sollazzo. He treated Elizabeth for sixteen weeks after which a pett-scan showed the tumor to be so small it was nearly invisible. Five highly targeted radiation sessions and a small out-patient surgery to nab an outlier cleared Elizabeth of cancer.
This all finished just a few weeks before this writing and as you can well imagine my primary vocation for the last two years has been that of caregiver. That job is gradually eliminating itself – Thank The Unknown Powers That Be – and I’m finally beginning to implement the newsletter idea.
One benefit of an idea delayed is the mulling time provided thereby and that’s something of which I’ve had an abundance during this arduous period. So now I have a pretty good sense of what this monthly missive will comprise.
There will be a mix of tales that eluded my memory when writing the books, some of the essays on various subjects (both serious and whimsical) that I’ve been writing for my own amusement since the early 1990s and observations about the aforementioned “life its own self”.
I hope you enjoy it and I encourage you to sign up here and tell your friends.
Thanks, BB 12 November 2017
