Stuff That I have Noticed #56: The Newt and the Donald

Some say it started with the mediocre thespian as POTUS (1981 – 1989) and he certainly did rain on a lot of liberal parades but in my (not particularly humble) opinion the most disastrous erosion of our political discourse started with the salamander. Being an avid crossword solver I know that the name of that amphibian is synonymous with the name of the guy who instigated what evolved into the gridlocked mess that is now the U. S. Congress.

I know, I know, Newt wasn’t a member of that formerly august debating society known as the Senate but as Speaker of the House he injected his obfuscatory venom into that larger, more diverse club where the contagion blossomed and then spread into the veins of Mitch The Bitch and so here we are.

From 1995 until January of ’99 the asinine mister Gingrich was Speaker. Unless you’ve been living in a cave you realize that this is one of the most influential positions in our Government. And he made the most of that gig by turning the representatives of his party into a brick (or should I say, prick) wall thereby bringing all enlightened legislation to a dead stop.

From there it was a short walk to the legislative gridlock of the last two decades. This is when the tsunami of dysfunction was made manifest, not only in DC but throughout many of our state governments.

“My way or the highway” replaced “e pluribus unum”.

And just a few elections later, following the administration of one of the most intelligent and empathetic men ever to hold the office, along came a well known, to New Yorkers, con artist who ran the most successful long-con (Look it up.) in the history of confidence men. Although losing the popular count by almost 3,000,000 votes this degenerate bully was inaugurated into the highest office in the USA.

His bizarre, needy temperament and utter lack of morals spread like a disease throughout all three branches of the government. His unconscionable behavior and imperviousness to any norm quickly unfurled throughout the federal government and trickled down to many state and local regimes as well. The actual, yet hitherto hidden, nature of scores of degenerate politicians was revealed as though (ironically) a “veracity virus” had spread giving them “permission” to drop their sanctimony and act out their genuine nastiness.

This showed up in my Facebook feed when I was writing this piece.

Mary On Donald

Not only that but the world-class scumbag further polluted the already politically dysfunctional Republican Party by infecting it with his moral turpitude and cowing otherwise (seemingly) decent politicians and infecting them with his highly contagious dis-ease.

I believe it is possible that the House 6 January hearings will turn over a sufficient number of rocks and expose a sufficient number of vermin thereunder to vaccinate the USA against further spread of this deadly affliction.

Let us fervently hope that they succeed.
