Stuff that I Have Noticed #67: Who Dunnit?!

The emerging drama about the multitude of misdeeds, not to mention actual indictments, of the former potus (Usually all caps but, well, you know.) that is beginning to take shape seems somewhat akin to a classic “Who Dunnit?” TV series which, instead of three acts is running over three years.

We know the “Who” but the “Dunnits” keep multiplying. Just in the last couple of weeks or so (as I write on 1 July 2023) more skulduggery has come to light. Both CNN and MSNBC devoted several hours last week.

MSNBC: The Indictment of Donald Trump

CNN: American Coup: Jan 6th Investigation

I have to admit that I am loving every minute of it.

As a New Yorker I have watched this evil genius for many years, long before he invaded DC. Face it: As stupid as he often seems, he is a genius, having run the greatest “long-con” in the history of con artists, getting his fat ass into the White House! And before that he built an empire almost completely on bullshit. Some folks point to his many bankruptcies as proof of his ineptitude as a business man often saying he even couldn’t avoid bankrupting a casino. I say au contraire. What he did was take all the cash out of these businesses, especially the casinos, and put into his own pockets thus driving the concern itself into bankruptcy. He first created a high cash enterprise, drained it then declared bankruptcy. If that isn’t evil genius I’d like to know what is.

So now we have an obvious felon as the leading contender for the (re)nomination to run, again, for the Presidency. The Grand Old Party has devolved into the Grope Our Pussy party. It’s hard to see how the party of Jacob Javits and Barry Goldwater will ever recover. Whether you agreed with their politics or not, they were both honest and decent men.

My theory about the devolution of the Republican party is that Rump, with his boorish behavior, “gave permission” to the worst assholes in the party to come out of the closet, as it were, and show their true colors. They saw the occupant of the oval figuratively shitting on the desk and pissing on the carpet and GETTING AWAY WITH IT and decided to drop their pretense of decency and show us who they really are. This in turn has proven quite illuminating.

There’s no need for me to list names here. If you pay any attention to The NY Times, Washington Post, MSNBC or even CNN you know who they are. Many if not most of the republicans in congress who expressed various levels of outrage in the immediate aftermath of the 6 January insurrection changed their tunes (a figurative) two minutes later when their most extreme constituents were seen to favor the violence and the aim thereof.

According to the Texas Tribune:
After spending a day being slammed by TV pundits and fellow conservatives for describing [the] U.S. Capitol insurrection as a “violent terrorist attack,” U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz walked back his comments on Thursday. The Texas Republican attempted to clarify his intent on FOX News program “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” calling his own words “sloppy” and “frankly dumb.” Cruz insisted he was referring only to the rioters who attacked police during the breach of the historic building.

Yeah, right!

McConnell: “He did not do his job. He didn’t take steps so federal law could be faithfully executed and order restored,” he continued, “No. Instead, according to public reports, he watched television happily — happily — as the chaos unfolded,” he said. “Even after it was clear to any reasonable observer that Vice President Pence was in serious danger.”

Then, of course, Pence voted again to acquit in Rump’s second (a record) impeachment trial.

I’m told that an old Irish curse goes: “May you live in interesting times”. Here we are!
